Vintage fashion was always elusive. I’ve never been able to go thrifting and find vintage pieces that fit my body, so it was a style that I just never got into.
The plus-size market has been growing rapidly, and resale stores and well as vintage stores have crept into the plus-size landscape in major cities. And if you aren’t in one, Etsy is an available option as well, with the searchability and array of sellers making it easy to consider adding vintage to your wardrobe rotation.
Vintage clothes are unique, often one-of-a-kind, and sometimes even handmade. Before you start shopping, get a measuring tape and measure your body. This will help you ensure that you are buying vintage that will actually fit your body, instead of relying on the size, which is highly unreliable.
Most sellers will provide specific measurements in the description and if they don’t just message them and ask. They’ll be more than happy to help you find the perfect vintage clothing for you.
For the last ten years, Jenny Zigrino has been selling vintage clothing on Etsy. Her customers love her vintage plus size finds, and she has a perfect review record to prove it. She’s not just a small business owner, in her bio she shares that she is also a stand-up comedian.
Dollface Productions is a “hodge podge” of antiques, clothing, and unique things she loves. Jenny’s motto is “If I won’t wear it, I won’t sell it.” Dollface focuses on plus-size vintage, stocking sizes 12 and up – but upper sizes appear to be limited at the current moment, although they are typically stocked.
Dollface Productions has many great reviews, but this one from brizzzyredhead sums up the Etsy shop. “Lovely seller; shipped lightning fast. [The] dress is in amazing condition and so gorgeous and unique, the photos don’t do it justice. I love it; thank you so much!!!’
LuvSick Plus was started by Britteny Riordan and is a Chicago vintage plus-size powerhouse. Luckily, you don’t have to be in Chicago to shop Britteny’s genius vintage collection, you can do that right on Etsy!
Britteny is passionate about finding the perfect vintage fit for every plus size body. At LUVSICK Plus, Britteny curates sizes 14 – 26 and up regularly. With a five star average and 474 reviews, you can go wrong supporting this small business.
LUVSICK Plus has a whopping 476 5 star reviews, with nearly 1700 sales. “Darling. Exactly as advertised – exactly as shown – but even better in person. I can’t wait to wear it. Oh, how will I accessorize? This seller has awesome taste,” writes Marsha in a recent review.
Bad Moon Vintage Shop was founded back in 2017 and has been selling beautiful plus and straight size vintage clothing since. Gorgeous dresses, flowy shirts, crop tops, and sweaters, this shop offers vintage spanning across the decades. Bad Moon Vintage is committed to size-inclusive vintage, and regularly stocks sizes 00 – 28 and up.
With just 45 reviews, all of them perfect, Bad Moon Vintage is not an Etsy mega-seller, but a small business that you should when shopping for plus size vintage.
Ari writes this review, “[The sweater] was exactly as pictured and exactly what I was looking for. The shipping was quick and the aesthetic of the packaging was so lovely. Definitely recommend this shop.”
“I offer an array of inclusive sizing and aim to be a non-binary and unisex friendly shop,” writes Kayt Erickson, the owner of Velvet Hound Vintage. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin based Etsy shop features quality vintage clothing and staple wardrobe pieces, in both straight and plus sizes.
They include some really dope vintage jeans I might have to snag for myself. Velvet Hound Vintage also sells vintage plus size clothing directly from their Instagram account by the same name.
In a recent review of the online vintage shop, LovestarAnomaly wrote, “These are exactly what I was hoping to find! Online thrifting can be a challenge, and I’m thrilled that these are as legit as I’d hoped! Thank you!”
